Study in B-minor - Fernando Sor Online Classical Guitar Lesson
Introduction
Fernando Sor was one of the most gifted and talented Spanish composers of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In addition to composing for guitar he also wrote works operatic & orchestral works, and pieces for ballet, piano, string quartet and choir.
Sor was a renowned virtuoso and his famous 'Variations on a theme of Mozart' is still a concert favourite today (I actually played this piece for my end-of-year recital during my first year study at university).
He was born into a wealthy family and fell in love with music after he was exposed to Italian opera by his father. He went on to study music and after traveling and touring through France, Russia, and England he decided to return and settle permanently in Paris.
Performance Points
Right-Hand
- A single arpeggio is used throughout
- Don't use rest-strokes if it will interrupt the sustain of other notes
- Try to assign the same finger to the same voice
Left-Hand
- Both sequential planting and block planting techniques are used
- Use pivot technique where necessary to allow for smooth and efficient changes
Don't know which fingers to use?
If you are struggling with the fingering for either hand I do suggest purchasing my classical guitar sheet music with tabs which has my suggested fingerings for the left & right-hands here.
